According to Professor Robert Booy, an infectious disease academic, was suspicious of this, saying that dengue fever deaths are rare. Investigators have ruled out foul play as a cause. He was found lying on the bed on his back by two hotel staff after he had failed to respond to knock on the door and they went in to investigate.

As the result of Andy Irons's death, a competition in Puerto Rico as part of the world tour was postponed for two days and all the competitor held a memorial service for Irons. Andy Irons had withdrawn from the competition due to his  ill health and was flying back to his home in Hawaii before dying during a stopover in Dallas, Texas. He had reportedly stopped in Miami after leaving Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico, which he withdrew from due to illness, reportedly dengue fever, which he acquired in either Portugal or Puerto Rico and had to be put on a saline drip, and was reported to have been vomiting on the plane therefore unable resuming his flight from Dallas to Kauai
Andy Irons was a professional surfer. He learned to surf on the dangerous and shallow reefs of the North Shore in Kauai, Hawaii, and won three world titles (2002, 2003, 2004), three Quiksilver Pro France titles (2003, 2004, 2005), two Rip Curl Pro Search titles (2006 and 2007) and 19 elite tour victories. On September 3, 2010 he won the Billabong Pro in Tahiti. Irons married Lyndie Dupuis on November 25, 2007 in Princeville, Kauai. She was seven months pregnant with their first child at the time of his death.Jonathan Jenkins, who works for one of Irons's major sponsors, says hundreds of people are expected to gather at Snapper Rocks to witness a memorial paddle-out.He says it will be led by fellow surfers and friends, including Mark Occhilupo, Joel Parkinson and Luke Egan.
"He's competed here each year in the world tour events - he has spent a lot of time here," he said.
"He has been training on the Gold Coast and was even considering moving here next year with his wife Lindy and his newborn son. Andy really loved it.
"It was a second home, like Australia is to a lot of overseas surfers."
Over 130 surfers pay their tribute to triple world champion Andy Irons who was found dead in his hotel room, Dallas earlier this week. The memorial service, held under overcast skies in Porta Del Sol, Puerto Rico, was also attended by dozens of admirers shocked by Irons's death at the age of 32.Mourners threw flowers into the water and clapped and cheered as they honoured his memory.
Meanwhile, The  Investigators discovered a container of methadone as well as a number of other drugs when they searched his possessions. An anonymous official at the Dallas Medical Examiner's Office mention that the methadone was found in his hotel room (source from Hawaii's Star Advertiser newspaper )
The narcotic was hidden inside a container of prescription sleep aid zolpidem, which was on the nightstand, according to the report.
Methadone can be used to treat heroin addiction and for chronic pain. It is not used to treat dengue fever. Reports said that Irons had spent two days in Miami on an intravenous drip, but insisted on heading home to see his own doctor. But he deteriorated and could not make a connecting flight to Hawaii from Dallas and checked into the hotel.
Family members travelled to Dallas yesterday. 'The world of surfing mourns an incredibly sad loss today with the news that Hawaii's Andy Irons has died,' they said in a brief statement.
